Located in the heartland of southeastern Pennsylvania, the Game Commission’s Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area is a mecca for wildlife and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The 6,254 acre facility, created in 1973, is home to pheasants and deer, bluebirds and cottontails and many other wild animals. The area is particularly noted for the thousands upon thousands of ducks, geese and swans that drop in during their spring and fall migrations. Of special interest to visitors is the spring migration of the Canada snow geese which descend on the area by the tens of thousands during the first week of March.
Middle Creek has a Propagation Area which has been set aside as a sanctuary for nesting waterfowl and other animals. No hunting or fishing is allowed in this area. Hunting is permissible in the Controlled Hunting Area and the Public Hunting Area, however special regulations apply to both areas. For hunting information contact the visitor’s center (717) 733-1512. For nature enthusiasts, there are nine walking trails that vary in length and difficulty. Picnic areas are peppered throughout the area and a Driving Tour for cars and bikers through the wildlife area is available beginning the first of March. Maps can be obtained at the Visitor’s Center. |
