ImageFort Indiantown Gap, located in northern Lebanon County, just off Exit 85B, I-81, is an expansive military post of 19,000 acres, home of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the Headquarters, Army and Air National Guard. The largest employer in Lebanon County, the fort is very busy, training more than 177,000 soldiers and airmen annually. The Fort is an open post and visitors are welcome to drive along the roads except for a few restricted areas.

Interesting places to see: the largest Reserve Component helicopter facility in the United States. At Muir Airfield observers may watch pilots practice helicopter takeoffs and landings. A number of military displays are available, foremost of which are the 28th Division memorial, the Air National Guard F-102 Delta Dagger aircraft static display, Nike missiles and the 40 & 8 French railroad boxcar designated as the Gratitude Train. The Battle of the Bulge and 95th Division monuments are nearby. The Lieutenant Governor’s residence, a fieldstone mansion, may be seen near the main entrance to the fort. Not far away is the PNG Military Museum. Immediately adjacent to the fort is the pristine Indiantown Gap National Cemetery and the beautiful Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial, both of which are open to the public and are well worth the visit.
